Windows 10 login screen settings

It is not a point that you normally 'hang on' for a long time: the login screen of Windows 10. Officially known as the lock screen by the way. But there is still something to adjust!

The Windows lock screen (let's keep calling it that in this article) is the screen that you see after turning on your PC or laptop after a while. You will find your accounts there and to log in, enter your password here followed by pressing Enter. In short: you could also call it the 'get out of here quickly' screen. However, there is still quite a bit to tweak in this part.

Launch Settings from the Start menu, then click Personal settings. In the column to the left of the now standing screen, click Lock screen. By default, a very nice background appears on the screen for this screen. If you want control over which image that is, there are several options. First, you can Background choose one of the pre-baked images. The best known is undoubtedly the view from a cave on a Mediterranean-looking sea. click on To leaf through and nothing stands in the way of using one of your own photos, that just adds a little more personal touch.

slideshow

If you can't choose, there is in the selection menu below Background the option Slideshow. By default, the folder Pictures selected as the source for your show. It may be more convenient to create a separate folder with images specially selected for the background. Then delete the Pictures folder by clicking on it and then on remove to click. Of course, this does not remove the folder from your disk, but only the source for the slideshow. Then click Add, browse to the folder with your collected background photos and click the button Choose this folder. Also check the possibilities under the link Advanced slideshow settings for a bit; the options available here with switch speak for themselves.

App status

Well, then there's the option Show fun facts, tips and tricks and more on your lock screen. We recommend that you simply turn the switch off. If only to prevent all kinds of promo messages from Microsoft ever appearing on your login screen. Furthermore, if you are one of those people who use apps, you could have the status of a few apps shown.

For example, you can already see on the lock screen whether an appointment is coming up or whether you have new mail ready. You can show a detailed status for one app and a quick status for a series of others. If you do not need this, click on any of the apps that may already be present by default, scroll up in the list that appears and click on No. After that, the relevant app (status) is removed from the row.
