Although the range of Netflix in the Netherlands is now very extensive, it often happens that you can only see certain films and series on the American version of Netflix. Very annoying, but there are ways to still watch these films and series in the Netherlands.
Some time ago it was announced that Netflix will actively take action against the use of tricks to watch the American Netflix offer in the Netherlands. This can be done, for example, via a VPN connection or with the help of proxies, whether or not via a browser plugin. With these tips you can (for now) still view the American offer.

American account
In theory, you can access Netflix's American offerings fairly easily by creating an American account. In practice, however, it turns out to be quite difficult, since you need an American credit card and an American address. You should also find a proxy site that redirects your internet traffic through the US when you sign in. Might be a good option if you have friends or acquaintances in the United States.

In practice, the Hola browser extension turns out to be much simpler. This extension for makes the entire American range available in one fell swoop. Even if you have already created a (Dutch) account. Would you still like to watch that Dutch cabaret show? Then you temporarily turn off Hola. You can also switch to, for example, Belgian or British content. However, you are limited to playing in your PC's browser with this method. Also note that Dutch subtitles are no longer available in the American environment.
Hola and similar plug-ins could well be the first victim of Netflix's regulatory drive. Similar services have already been taken care of in the past. For now, however, the extension is still working fine, so take advantage of it - while you still can.
The sun rises for nothing
There is often a fixed rule of thumb on the internet: if something is free, you are the product. That kite certainly goes for VPN services and IP extensions. Hola is also not without criticism: a few years ago it became known that IP addresses can be used to set up botnets and other illegal practices. Stay critical and choose other options if you don't trust it.

Adjust DNS
The American offer can also be called up on other devices. A requirement is that you can set these statically in the network settings and enter the DNS servers manually. This is possible, for example, on Android, iOS, PlayStation and Google TV. On this website you can see how to configure this and which DNS address you should enter and how to manually adjust the settings. Note that Netflix also actively counteracts this. So every now and then you will need to change the DNS address or restart the app if you start seeing these error messages.
