Is your MacBook no longer fully charging? Then there is a good chance that the battery of your MacBook needs to be recalibrated. You can do this yourself in a few easy steps. In this article you can read how you can fully charge the battery of your MacBook.
What is calibration?
The battery of your MacBook is equipped with an internal microprocessor. This microprocessor estimates the amount of energy in the battery and the time you can still work with it. This information is displayed in the menu bar on your Mac. However, the microprocessor may become inaccurate over time and may no longer correctly display both battery contents and battery life. You can solve this problem by calibrating the microprocessor.
Calibrating the microprocessor
Calibrating the microprocessor is a simple process consisting of only three steps. However, the process takes some time as the battery needs to be completely discharged, among other things.
Step one
Connect your MacBook to the power adapter and let the device fully charge. Since your MacBook no longer displays the battery contents correctly, it is wise to pay attention to the power adapter. As soon as the green light on the power adapter lights up, your MacBook is fully charged. From this point on, leave the device connected to the mains for at least two hours. You can use the device as usual during this period.
Step two
Now let the battery discharge completely. You do this by disconnecting the MacBook from the power adapter and using the device. As soon as the MacBook is almost empty, a warning will appear that you must connect the device to the power adapter in order to continue working. Don't do this, but do save any files you have open so they don't get lost.
Then continue to use the device until the MacBook automatically goes into sleep mode. Now put the device away and wait at least five hours. The last bit of energy in the battery is also consumed during these five hours. The battery is now completely empty.
Step three
Now reconnect the MacBook to the power adapter and let the device fully charge. So again, wait until the green light on the power adapter lights up before disconnecting the power adapter from the MacBook. Once the device is fully charged, the battery's microprocessor is calibrated.
