Do you want to give a PowerPoint presentation and use a YouTube fragment? You can download and convert the video, but that's a lot of work. If you have an Internet connection at the location where you want to give the presentation, you can also embed it in your PowerPoint presentation. We explain how to work in PowerPoint 2003.
1. Controls
Open Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 from Start / Programs / Microsoft Office / Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 . By default, you will see a blank slide. If you do not want to create a new slideshow, but want to continue with a previously created project, you must first open that file. Choose File / Open or use key combination Ctrl+O and navigate to the exact file location. Click Open and then navigate to the slide where you want to add a YouTube clip. Unfortunately, there is no special button in PowerPoint 2003 that allows you to directly import a movie. Therefore, you must first invoke a toolbox of controls. This is done as follows: Go to View / Toolbars and place a check next to Toolbox Controls . Do you see the new toolbar? Click on the very last icon in the toolbar, the button with the hammer and the wrench. You will now be presented with a drop-down menu in which all available controls are visible. Scroll down and click on Shockwave Flash Object .
First of all, you need to call up the Controls Toolbox.
2. Shockwave Flash Object
Do you see that your cursor has changed to a cross? Draw a box on your page. Your video will soon be shown in this white frame with a cross. Did you not draw the correct dimensions? No problem. You can adjust the position and size at any time. By grabbing a corner of the frame and dragging it while holding down the mouse button, you can resize the video frame. You can move the frame by placing your cursor in the object box and holding down the left mouse button.
Now minimize Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 and open your browser. Go to www.youtube.com and click on the clip you would like to use in your slideshow. Under each YouTube clip you will find additional information, such as the creator's name and the number of times the video has been viewed. Do you also see the Share button? Click it once to see the unique web address. Copy the URL next to the chain icon to your clipboard using the Ctrl+C key combination.
Copy the unique URL of the YouTube clip to the clipboard.
3. Paste code
Return to Microsoft Powerpoint 2003 and right-click on the box with the cross that will contain your video clip. Choose Properties . You will now see a box with all kinds of codes. This looks more complicated than it actually is. Click the box just next to Movie and paste here the URL you copied to your clipboard in the previous step. Use the key combination Ctrl+V to paste the code. However, you need to modify the code a bit. Delete the text watch? and replace it =-sign (equals-sign) by a / (slash). You can also adjust other parameters if necessary. If you want the video to start automatically during the presentation, you must select the setting True next to Playing. If you prefer to start the clip manually, choose False . Don't want the fragment to repeat itself? Then replace True next to Loop with False . Close the window with the red cross button in the top right corner and press F5 to start the slideshow.
Remove watch? and replace the = sign with a /.
Note that this works differently in Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010.
