5 Tips to Delete Data in Windows 7 and 8

When deleting data, it is important that you do this thoroughly. If you do not do this, parts of a program will still remain on your computer. Fortunately, there is software that helps with that, making it easy to delete your browser history or applications and programs.

01 Delete history

Your browser remembers a lot of data and information while surfing the internet, for example which websites you visited (and when), passwords and completed forms. You can easily empty this 'internet cache'. In Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox you can call up a cleaning assistant with the key combination Ctrl+Shift+Del. A selection screen will appear in which you can indicate which data you want to delete. For example, indicate that you want to delete the history, but you want to keep your passwords. With some browsers you can selectively use the cleaning aid for a certain time and thus only clean the data from the past hour (or day).

Press Ctrl+Shift+Del to clear your browsing history (and more!).

02 Extension for CCleaner

CCleaner is an unsurpassed utility for removing unnecessary files. It frees up disk space and erases privacy-sensitive information, such as your browser's cache files. CCleaner supports many programs, but it can always be better. CCEnhancer claims to support more than a thousand (!) programs. CCEnhancer downloads the additional list of program settings with one click and adds it to CCleaner. This makes your cleaning action with CCleaner even more effective.

CCEnhancer ensures that the cleaning program CCleaner supports (even) more programs.

03 Remove apps quickly

You can easily uninstall or uninstall Windows 8.1 apps from the Start screen. Right click on a tile and choose Untie from start to remove it from the overview or remove to uninstall the app. If you have a lot of apps, you can also make a selection first. Press and hold the Ctrl key. Click on all the apps you want to uninstall in succession. The apps are selected. Now right click on the selection and remove the apps from your computer. If you want to get rid of the default apps of Windows 8.1, you can use Win 8 App Remover.

Start the program via the desktop environment as administrator (use the right mouse button). Select your Windows 8 version at the top left of the screen. click on List apps. Win 8 App Remover finds the default apps that are (still) installed on your computer, such as scan, sound recorder, XBOX games and more. Check the apps you want to remove and confirm with Remove apps.

Win 8 App Remover removes apps by default that are already installed on your Windows 8.1 computer by default.

04 Destroy data

If you delete files via the recycle bin, the files may still be recoverable. If you want to permanently delete files, you can use a file shredder like WipeFile. This will overwrite the disk space where the file was stored several times. Choose the Dutch language via the menu Tools / Language. Drag the files or folders you want to destroy into the WipeFile window. Choose the 'strength' of the file shredder at Method and confirm with To clear. Note: use WipeFile with care, because gone is really gone!

WipeFile destroys files by overwriting them multiple times.

05 Thorough uninstall

If you want to remove multiple Windows programs, you need to be very patient. The standard method via the control panel does not allow you to start more than one uninstall procedure at the same time. IObit Uninstaller offers a smart solution for this. The program displays a list of installed software. You can easily sort the list by clicking on a column, for example Date Installed or Size. You use this last choice, for example, if your (SSD) disk is really almost full and you want to quickly see what the biggest space hogs are.

Activate the option Batch uninstall. You can now check multiple programs to remove. Press the button Uninstall to uninstall the programs sequentially. Once the last program from your queue has been uninstalled, IObit Uninstaller will run a search. Any leftover file remains will appear after which you can delete them.

IObit Uninstaller can uninstall several programs in succession and then performs a thorough check for residual files.
