EncryptOnClick - Fast Encrypted

Privacy-sensitive files should preferably be well protected. So you don't just leave it on your disk and you prefer not to e-mail it unsecured. Encrypting the files with a reliable encryption algorithm provides a solution. EncryptOnClick works on the basis of a robust 256-bit AES and files can be encrypted and decrypted with just a few mouse clicks.

  • Pros
  • Reliable encryption algorithm
  • User friendly
  • You can also decrypt with 7-Zip
  • Negatives
  • Encryption in the same folder as originals

After installation, an extra option appears to have been added to the context menu of the Explorer: Encrypt with EncryptOnClick (at least with files, not with folders; you can also decrypt encrypted files from this option by the way). If you still prefer a 'portable version', three files will suffice for this: EncryptOnClick.exe, EncryptonClick.exe.manifest and XceedZip.dll.

Encrypt

The main window contains only a few buttons: one to encrypt, one to decrypt, each for files and folders. It is not the case that the folder contents end up in one encrypted file: each file is encrypted separately. A strong password will suffice and unless you specify otherwise, the original file will also be deleted – so it won't show up in the Recycle Bin. If you also want to make the file names unreadable themselves, a check mark will suffice. The encrypted file with extension eoc always ends up in the same folder as the original. While encrypting, EnCryptOnClick simultaneously compresses the files, useful when you want to send them as attachments, for example.

Decrypt

Encrypted files can be decrypted in different ways: from the main window or the context menu of the Explorer, but also by double clicking on such an eoc file. The intended recipient doesn't even need to have EncryptOnClick to decrypt. According to the site, this also works with WinZip (9 or higher), but during our tests it turned out that it also worked with the popular 7-Zip. Of course you have to enter the corresponding password.

Conclusion

EncryptOnClick is a handy tool to quickly and reliably (thanks to AES 256-bit) encrypt one or more files with a password. The intended recipient can decrypt the data with EncryptOnClick, but also with a popular archiving tool like 7-Zip.
