Just under two years ago, Mozilla introduced a browser with a brand new engine under the name Firefox Quantum. The main purpose of this change was speed gain, but in this area Google Chrome failed to dethrone. We are now nine versions further since the launch of the Quantum engine and Chrome still scores slightly better in many benchmarks. This difference is negligible in normal use. Plus, there's a lot to be said for Firefox Quantum's flexible user environment and myriad of features.
own taste
The makers of Firefox Quantum have been sticking to a dark title bar with light-colored menus for some time now. Traditionally, you can adjust the menu bar to your own liking. For example, add a bookmarks bar and integrate buttons for add-ons, email, private browsing, and print. If desired, you can also use a sidebar and arrange the start page according to your own taste. For example, indicate yourself how many rows of top websites and highlights you want to display.
Interesting features
After installation, the browser asks to create a Firefox account. This allows you to synchronize bookmarks, history and passwords with different (mobile) devices, among other things. Furthermore, Quantum has all kinds of interesting extras in store for you. For example, you can share large files with Firefox Send, although this function also works in other browsers. One option that is reserved for Mozilla's browsing program is taking screenshots. Handy when you want to save (a part of) the website as an image. This works great in practice. In addition, the reading view contains a reading function, but unfortunately this option is not available for Dutch web pages. Finally, there is also an extensive library of add-ons ready for you, so that you can expand the functionality as needed.
Conclusion
If you spend a lot of time on the internet, you will undoubtedly enjoy Firefox Quantum. The program may not be as fast as Chrome on paper, but this browser responds extremely smoothly during surfing sessions. In addition, various original functions are very worthwhile!
