Helpdesk: Convert mov to avi

Question from a reader: I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 camera. When I shoot movies with this unit, the files have the extension .mov. If I want to edit these images in Pinnacle, they must have an avi extension. Which program can I use to convert the movie images from .mov to .avi?

Our answer: Converting mov file to avi file is easy with Pazera Free MOV to AVI. Installation is not necessary. Download the zip file and run movtoavi.exe. Make sure the mov files you want to convert are on your hard drive. Then drag and drop the files into the Pazera Free MOV to AVI window. The files appear in a waiting list. Specify at Output settings / Video codec what type of compression you want to apply to the avi file, for example Xvid or DivX. Choose HuffYUV if you don't want to use compression (lossless). This produces large to extremely large avi files, but the quality is not affected. Optionally you can set all kinds of extra parameters, but by default this is not necessary. Start the conversion process via the File / Convert checked files menu . This process can take several (tens of) minutes. Pazera Free MOV to AVI puts the final result in the same folder as the mov files. These source files remain completely intact.

Pazera Free MOV to AVI converts mov files to an avi format of your choice.
