How to merge two Gmail accounts

You've had a Gmail address for some time, but for some reason a second Gmail account is added. Then you would of course have liked to consult and send the messages from both accounts from one and the same G-mail account. How to merge two Gmail accounts.

If you no longer know how to create a (second) Gmail account, here's how. Surf to gmail.com. If you are automatically logged in with your first, current account and you find it annoying to log out first, simply activate the incognito mode of your browser. In Chrome you do this with Ctrl+Shift+N, in most other browsers with Ctrl+Shift+P.

Once you have arrived at Gmail (unsigned in), click on Create an account and fill in the requested information, each time using Next one confirms. Finish with the button create Account and with Confirm. You should now be automatically logged in to Gmail and you can send and receive emails. Then log out of this account.

You now have two Gmail accounts. However, to be able to transfer messages from your first account to your second account, there appears to be little other option than to secure the first account with 2-step authentication. If this is already the case, you can skip this step.

If not, surf to //myaccount.google.com/security, logged in with your first account. Here you open the section Security and click in the right panel Two-step verificationand then To work. Enter your password and press Next one. Enter your phone number and indicate that you want to confirm the codes via Text message or through a Phone call. Or click Choose another option if you are a security keyl or a so-called Google prompt prefers. Confirm met Next, enter the received code and press . again Next one. Finish the procedure with Switch.

Prepare for export

We will stay with your first account for a while, so the account whose messages you want to import into your other (second) account. You must first prepare this with a view to this message transfer.

Click on the gear icon in the top right corner and choose Institutions. Open the tab Forwarding and POP/IMAP. In the section Download via POP dot you Enable POP for all email to. Just below, at When messages are opened with POP, you have some options. This way you choose what should happen with the forwarded messages: keep in your inbox, mark as read, archive or delete. Click at the bottom Saving Changes and sign out of this Gmail account.

Request app password

In the next step you will be asked for the password of your first Gmail account, but we'll tell you already: that doesn't seem to work with the regular password. You need the corresponding 'app password' for this.

With your first Gmail account, sign in to https://myaccount.google.com and open the tab Security. Click in the right panel, at the section Sign in to Google on App passwords. Enter your password and press Next one. Enter the code you received - leave the check mark next to No more questions on this computer - and press . again Next one. In the next window, select the app (e.g. "Email") and the device (e.g. "Windows PC") for which you want to generate the app password. Once you press the button To generate press, a sixteen-letter code pops up that you immediately write down. More information about logging in with app passwords can be found via the link.

Prepare import

You then log in to your second Gmail account, the account where you want to see all messages from the other account. Again, click on the gear icon and choose Institutions. This time you go to the tab Accounts and Import. In the section View email from other accounts click on Add an email account. A new dialog box will appear in which you can: E-mail address enter the address of your other Gmail account. Press Next one, dot Import email from my other account (POP3) on and press again Next one. The username should now be automatically filled in (the part for @gmail.com) and it is up to you to enter the corresponding password. Bee POP server let you pop.gmail.com selected and also leave the port set to 995.

For safety, leave the check mark at Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving email messages (image 5). Optionally, put a check mark next to the option Tag incoming messages and/or archive incoming messages (skip inbox). Confirm with Add Account.

fine-tune imports

You probably also want the option Yes, I want to be able to send email as touch. Then press Next one, fill in the requested information and press Next step. You might want to leave the check mark next to Consider as an alias. In that case, the recipients will see the address you chose as the sender of the email and the messages will be delivered to both addresses in the same Gmail box.

If you have indeed indicated that you also want to be able to send e-mail from your other address, you still have to enter the in the next window Send verification impressions. You will then receive an email with further instructions in your other Gmail account. Basically you will find a code here that you must enter in the confirmation window and confirm with the button Check.

If all is well, all mail from your first account will now be retrieved from your second account at regular intervals. When exactly that happened and how many messages were collected during the last round, you will find out via Institutions, on the tab Accounts and Import, Bee View email from other accounts. Here you will also find the links View history and Check for email messages now at. This last option is useful if you don't want to wait any longer and want to have potential emails checked immediately.
