Play Android games on PC with KoPlayer

There are several reasons to use Android apps on a computer. Playing a game on a big screen is one of the most attractive aspects. KoPlayer is a free emulator to experience the Android environment on your PC screen. With this you can play the mobile games with the keyboard, mouse or gamepad.

An emulator is software that mimics an operating system. Thanks to an Android emulator, it is possible to enjoy mobile games comfortably without worrying about the limited storage capacity of your smartphone or the draining of the battery. The Chinese KoPlayer can handle most games. If your Android phone or tablet rejects certain games, you can still try them on KoPlayer.

Download and install KoPlayer

Sometimes installing an Android emulator can be complex. That's why in recent years some well-known names, such as Andy and AmiduOS, have thrown in the towel. Fortunately, KoPlayer makes it easier. The emulator is free and available for Windows and macOS. A notable plus is that the Google Play Store is built into it.

The installer works in four languages: English, Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese. The program warns that KoPlayer (like all emulators) takes up quite a lot of disk space and asks if you want to install the software on an external disk. To make everything run as smoothly as possible, simply choose the hard drive as the storage location, choose English and accept the terms and conditions. This will automatically take you to the beginners guide.

This beginner's guide shows in some images the basic operations to use the emulator. Gaming via the keyboard can be switched on and off via the function key F12. You can zoom in with the mouse wheel in combination with the Ctrl key. If you still have a gamepad or joystick lying around, you will learn how to configure those controllers.

There is also a kind of panic button, the so-called Boss key, a key combination to quickly make the Android screen disappear. By default this is the combination Ctrl+Alt+W, but you can do this in the Software Settings modify. With the same key combination, the Android screen reappears.

The last slide shows how to transfer files and photos from the PC to the virtual Android device. When you have understood everything, click the button Got it and few seconds later Android 6.0 Marshmallow is running on your computer.

After the introduction, you will arrive at the home screen of the fictitious Android device. Here are some links to System tool, FAQ (in Chinese), Browser, Root Explorer and the Google Play Store. There are also two buttons at the top. One always brings you back to the home screen and next to it is a button that brings up the 'hot' games from Google Play. You can easily install a game via that button. Just use the button Download under the title of the game you want to install.

Left and right of the desktop are two dark bars. The right bar has three buttons. With the top you switch between the open apps. It is possible to run multiple Android applications at once, a feature that many other Android emulators lack. The button below takes you quickly to the home screen and the bottom one is the Back-knob.

To install an app that is not in the 'hot' list, you have to go to the Google Play Store via the home screen to reach the correct title via the search function. There you click on the green install-knob. Finished! You see how the emulator downloads the app and moments later the newcomer is on the Desktop.

Apps from the Play Store are automatically installed on the virtual machine, but you can also add apps from other sources, such as from a website. You then have to install it manually. In that case, you must have the apk installation file. You do that outside the virtual environment, so in Windows. Then use the button in KoPlayer Load apk to run the installer in Android. If all goes well, this app will also appear on the home screen.

Of course you can also delete apps by clicking on them and then holding the left mouse button until you are asked whether you really want to get rid of the app. Be careful with apk files: they are not always safe and reliable. Downloading from the Play Store is preferred.

Control

Also in the left bar are various functions to make the game experience as optimal as possible. For example, at the bottom is the button to switch to full-screen mode. This allows you to enjoy games with a lot of details screen-wide. In addition, in this mode, the sidebars disappear from view. You can retrieve them by moving the mouse pointer to the side of the screen. By the way, here are also the buttons to adjust the sound volume.

At the top is also the Shakebutton, which is useful for games that require you to shake the device. By default, KoPlayer assumes a horizontal screen, but with the Rotate put the screen upright. Here you will also find the button to activate the webcam and a button to find your current GPS locations, although it didn't work for us.

For a better gaming experience, set with the button keyboard hotkeys for operation. When you click on this button, a right bar opens. To configure the keyboard, first read the information at the link How to edit. This is where you learn to configure the mouse and keyboard for shooting games or to mimic a gamepad. You can also connect a real gamepad with joystick.

Advanced options

Since KoPlayer supports a variety of screen resolutions, you can get started quickly without worrying about all kinds of resolution settings. You can adjust those settings to your liking. To do this, click on the button Menu in the upper right corner. Then you open the Software Settings. On the tab General set the resolution manually and determine the key combination for the Boss Key. Depending on the amount of RAM your computer has, you can make the virtual machine run smoothly by increasing the working memory in the tab advance. In this tab you choose between four presets. We chose the option speed.

Finally, at Attributes you can read about the brand and type of device that KoPlayer emulates. Here you can even call up the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number, a kind of serial number of the emulated device. Have fun gaming!
