Windows 10 search bar not working: how to fix it

For several hours now, PC users have been experiencing problems with the Windows 10 search bar. The search function no longer works and people see a gray screen. Here you will find the solution.

The search bar and start menu appear in the lower left corner of the screen in Windows 10. The search function is used to quickly launch applications and programs or to open files. The cause of the bug is still unclear, but in the past we have seen that problems with Windows Search were due to Bing.

The problem is probably on the server side of Microsoft. The problem is expected to be resolved by itself. Would you rather not wait for that? Then use this solution:

  • 1. Press the Windows button + R on your keyboard
  • 2. Type cmd and press Enter
  • 3. Enter the following 3 lines:

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search /v BingSearchEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search /v CortanaConsent /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

tskill searchui

Update: Restarting the computer twice should also fix the problem.

Keep in mind that you don't change anything else in the Registry Editor, this can seriously damage your Windows 10 version.
