Test and optimize your laptop battery in 3 steps

If your laptop is not connected to the socket, you are dependent on one specific part: the battery. This is one of the cutbacks in most laptops. In this article you will learn to investigate the condition of your battery.

Step 1: BatteryInfoView

A battery is a part that is subject to wear and tear. You will notice this with the battery of your car, smartphone, tablet and also on your laptop. Many cheap laptops have a mediocre battery, simply to keep costs down. You can do something about this to a limited extent. If you're interested in the technical speculations of your battery, BatteryInfoView has all the answers. The program shows a list with, among other things, the manufacturer, temperature, voltage and current. Bee Chemistry you see the type of battery. In most cases, this will contain Lithium Ion. Step 2: BatteryBar

If you want to know how fast or slow your battery is draining (and whether this is still linear), you can use BatteryMon. BatteryMon shows the 'drainage' of your battery in a graph and can keep track of this for you. This gives you a better prediction of how long (or short) you can work on your battery in practice.

Since the Windows default battery indicator is very sketchy, we can recommend BatteryBar. BatteryBar shows a large icon of a battery in your system tray. This way you can see at a glance how long you can continue working. Click the BatteryBar icon to toggle the time by a percentage.

Step 3: Power Management

To continue working on your battery for longer, it is recommended to check the Windows power settings. You can find this in the control panel. The screen is one of the largest power consumers of your laptop. Make sure you turn off your screen quickly. Also turn off your screen saver.

If your battery barely charges or runs out extremely quickly, replacement is the only option. The warranty on the battery is usually only a few months. Purchasing a compatible battery is the cheapest option. These are not only cheaper, but often have more capacity than the standard battery from your laptop manufacturer.
