Log in to your Google account without a password

Of course it is important that you protect your accounts with a good password, but in many cases it is inconvenient to have to enter it every time. With a relatively new function from Google you can log in to your Google account without a password.

Google has added a new feature that allows you to use your Android phone or iPhone to sign in to your Google account without having to use a password. Here we show you how to set this up and how it works exactly. Also read: Manage your passwords and credentials in Edge.

Enable the feature

If you are using an Android phone, you need to log in to your Google account and go here and to Settings > Google > Login & Security to go. Then press To work at the part Don't want to keep typing passwords?

If you have an iPhone, you must first download and install the official Google app. Then log in via the app, press your Gmail address at the top left of the screen and go to the account settings. Press Login and security and choose Don't want to keep typing passwords?

From your desktop PC, you need to log in to your Google account from the browser. Then click on your profile picture at the top right of the page and choose My Account > Login & Security. Then click Don't want to keep typing passwords?

Don't see the option? Then Google has not yet made the function available for your account. The function is currently still being tested, so not everyone has the option yet.

You then have to indicate which phone you want to use to log in to your account without a password. You can select multiple phones if you want, but it's safer to use just one phone as the login device. In addition, make sure that the phone you use for this cannot be unlocked just like that, otherwise Jan and everyone can access your Google account from your phone.

Confirm your choices and a login banner will appear at the top of your login device screen. Enter your PIN or swipe pattern and agree. In the next screen, you need to actually enable the option.

How does it work?

The next time you try to sign in to your Google account, you'll need to enter your email address and click Next one click. Instead of a field in which you have to enter your password, you will now see a two-digit number. You will again see a login banner on your phone. When you press this, you will see a number of two-digit numbers. Press the number that corresponds to the number on the login screen on your computer.

The more often you log in this way and with the same device, the greater the chance that Google will no longer ask you for a number.

However, it's a good idea to remember your Google password anyway, in case you lose your phone or Google decides something suspicious is going on with your account and blocks all other login methods. You often still have to log in in the 'normal' way to change your settings within Google.
