When you work at home on different systems, it is nice that you can access your files anytime and anywhere. You do that by sharing a disk drive or folder. In this article, we'll show you how to share files and folders between all your different devices.
01 Share folder
Right click on the folder you want to share and choose Characteristics. Go to the tab To share and then click the button To share. In the next screen you determine for which user accounts you want to make the files available. For convenience, choose . in the drop-down menu Everybody, after which you confirm with Add. 02 Password
Would you rather not have other family members have unlimited access to the shared folder(s)? No problem, because you can easily shield everything with the password of your Windows user account. In the control panel, go to Network & Internet / Network and Sharing Center / Change advanced sharing settings. Then check if the option Enable password protected sharing is activated.
You can also choose to disable password protection for faster access to shared folders. Make a choice and confirm with Saving Changes. Also check whether the option Enable network discovery is activated. This setting allows computers to see each other on the home network.
If you keep private data in a shared folder, a password is nice.
03 Open Shared Folders
As soon as you want to access a shared folder on another PC, open Windows Explorer. Then navigate in the left column to Network and double-click the name of the PC that hosts the shared files. If necessary, type your Windows user account username and password. All files in the shared folder are now accessible.
Does not it work? Open the control panel and navigate to Network & Internet / Network and Sharing Center / Change advanced sharing settings. Activate the option Enable network discovery.
