How to use music tracks as ringtones on your iPhone

With a nice ringtone you can easily personalize your iPhone. Here we will show you how to set a music track as a ringtone.

If you would like to set a song from your music collection as a ringtone on your iPhone, you can. But usually you don't want the ringtone to start at the beginning of the song. Here we'll show you how to turn your favorite song into a ringtone and then turn it on. You can even use different music tracks for different contacts. Create the ringtone using iTunes and the Finder

To get started you have to iTunes open, on the tab My music click and choose a song you want to use as your ringtone. Right click on the song and choose Show info. Click on the tab Options.

Then you get the options Start and Stop to see. Here you choose at which points in the music track the ringtone should start and end. You can use up to 30 seconds of the song as a ringtone.

Now click at the top of the window File and choose Convert > Create AAC Version. Your selection will then be saved as a new audio file.

Note: Go back to the tab Options for the original audio file and reset the counter, otherwise the track will not be played in full from now on.

m4a to m4r

You can use the newly created, short audio file as a ringtone. To do this, you must first make it visible in the Finder and convert it to the correct file format. Right click on the file in iTunes and choose Show in Finder. Now click on the file in the Finder and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r. Agree to the change.

You can now remove the shorter version (the ringtone) from your iTunes library. Make sure you only remove it from the library, you should not move the file to the Trash.

Put the ringtone on your iPhone

Go back to the finder and double click on the .m4r file. It then disappears, and henceforth becomes under To show displayed. Connect your iPhone to iTunes and click on the phone icon to the right of the three dots. Then select the option in the left column To show. Select the new ringtone and sync it to your iPhone.

Using the ringtone

In the Institutions from your iPhone you can now find your new ringtone at the top of the list. Press it to use it as a general ringtone.

If you want to assign the new ringtone to specific contacts, you need to go to the Contacts app and press the name of the person you want to assign the ringtone to. if you're on here ringtone you can choose from all your tones. This way you can immediately hear who is calling.
