Office Tabs - Finally Tabs in Word and Excel

Office is one of the best packages for creating text documents, sheets, presentations and so on. Microsoft has been tinkering with the interface for years, and while not everyone likes the ribbon, it is chock-full of options. But why are there no tabs showing us all our open documents? The makers of Office Tabs also wondered that.

Office Tabs is a program that does exactly what its name promises: it adds tabs to Office. Not all applications, only Word, Excel and PowerPoint. We don't really like programs that make changes to the interface of programs we use for productivity purposes, because they can often also cause the program to become less stable (after all, it's like installing something extra under the hood of your car). Fortunately, this is not the case with Office Tabs. The program doesn't do anything heavy, it really just adds tabs under the ribbon. Also read: 20 tips for Office 16.

indispensable

Is that nice? Yes, in fact, after ten minutes we already found it indispensable. Admittedly, it looks slightly less sleek and stylish than the rest of Office, but we soon forgot that when we were able to navigate through the twenty open documents at a killer pace. Selecting documents from the taskbar just doesn't work optimally, we want tabs! It is handy that new documents are automatically opened in a tab (unless you indicate otherwise).

Configuration

What's extra nice is that the makers have gone a little further than just adding tabs. A configuration assistant is included that allows you to customize the operation of the tabs in detail. You can also indicate where you want to see the tabs and you can even indicate that you want tabs in Word, but not in Excel.

Conclusion

Office Tabs is a fantastic little program, one that we secretly would have paid a few bucks for. It's nice that it has just been thought through carefully and that as a user we have the option to adjust what we want to adjust (including the key combinations). Microsoft: are you reading along? We want this!
