Power Data Recovery

Panic is a logical response if you accidentally delete an important file. However, most mistakes in this area are easy to fix if you keep a cool head and take the right steps. This quickstart shows you how to use Power Data Recovery to recover files that you accidentally deleted.

1. MiniTool Power Data Recovery

A deleted file is not immediately gone. The space the file took up is marked as 'free space' by Windows. As long as it is not overwritten by another file, you can easily get the deleted file back with the appropriate tools. It's a good idea to install MiniTool Power Data Recovery now, even if you haven't lost any files yet. If you install the program afterwards on your C drive (where the deleted file was stored), there is a chance that the installation procedure will overwrite the deleted file. This chance is slim, but it's better to rule it out. MiniTool Power Data Recovery does not guarantee successful recovery, but it is worth a try. Especially the photo recovery options work well!

2. Find deleted files

Unlike many commercial file recovery programs, MiniTool Power Data Recovery is free for personal use. Launch MiniTool Power Data Recovery. To get back deleted files, click Undelete recovery. The program asks where the file was saved when you lost it. For example, choose the C drive here and continue with the button recover. MiniTool Power Data Recovery searches for file remnants and displays them in a folder structure. Browse to the file you want to restore and check it. Right click on the selection and choose recover. Specify the folder to which you want to restore the files. Note: it is preferable to choose a different drive letter than the drive on which the files were stored before you lost them.

The program itself looks for file remnants that can be recovered.

3. Recover Photos

MiniTool Power Data not only works on your hard disk, you can also run the program on the memory card of your digital camera or on your USB stick. This makes it easy to find photos and videos that have been deleted once. Even if a memory card seems unreadable, MiniTool Power Data can help you recover images and movies. Insert the (defective) memory card into the card reader of your computer. Start MiniTool Power Data, in the first screen click Digital Media Recovery and indicate which drive letter your memory card has. The search & restore process is almost the same. MiniTool Power Data shows a preview of the files you may have lost and subdivides the files found, into folders that contain, for example, jpgs, pngs or movie files.
