Your Windows PC's download folder is probably a mess. Installation files, photos, email attachments, documents, and more are mixed together in one folder. In this article we are going to neatly organize all your downloads in subfolders with the Belvedere tool. In three simple steps you have a clear folder Downloads again.
Step 01: Subfolders
We will automatically organize the contents of your download folder into subfolders. You can delete files yourself at your own discretion. The Belvedere program does the selection of your downloads on the basis of the type of file. This is recognized based on the file extension (eg jpg for photo files and exe or msi for installation files). Make sure that all extensions are shown in Windows Explorer: go to Control Panel / Appearance and Personalization / Folder Options / Display, uncheck Hide extensions for known file types. Open your download folder in File Explorer. Create a subfolder for each category of downloads, for example: Pictures, Videos, Music, Installation, Documents and Other.
Step 02: Delay
Download and install Belvedere. Launch Belvedere and go to the tab Preferences. Sets Sleep time at minimum 1 hour (or longer). With this, Belvedere will check your download folder once an hour. Save your settings with Safe preferences. Go to the tab leaflets and click the plus sign at the bottom left. Point to your download folder, this folder will appear with the title Downloads in the left column.
Step 03: Create Rules
click on Downloads and then the plus sign next to the option Edit rules. We create a first automation rule: add the rule to Description a name, for example Music. Choose If any of the following conditions are met and then extension contains mp3. This rule is executed on all files ending in .mp3. Add a new condition for all types of music files in your download folder, for example Extension contains flac. Bee Do the following you decide what needs to be done. Choose Move file to folder and point the folder Music to the ones you created earlier. click on Test to test your rule. Does it work? Activate your rule with Enable and confirm with OK. Create rules for all the categories you want to organize.
