Microsoft will release the first major update to Windows 10 this year, version 2004, in April, and we can expect several improvements. It must be said that Microsoft probably wants to focus its efforts on the development of Windows 10X, the operating system for foldable devices. So it may be that the April update does not fix all problems in Windows 10.
The update in April is the successor of a somewhat smaller update that appeared in November last year.
Recover from the cloud
Arguably one of the most exciting new features in the April update is the ability to restore Windows from the cloud, an option Mac users have known for years. Ideal, because now you don't need an external hard drive to make a backup. This is a welcome feature, especially if you enjoy a fast and stable internet connection.
The recovery option in the cloud does not ensure that you restore your PC to factory settings, but will only restore the most recent version of Windows 10.
We have created a wonderful online course for Windows 10. Together with a 180-page book, you will learn everything about this operating system. With extra practice questions to test your knowledge and clear video tutorials where the advanced parts of Windows 10 are explained even more for you.
Windows Hello PIN
With the April update you will also be able to log in faster using Windows Hello PIN, especially if you are in safe mode. This saves time if something is wrong with your computer and you have to log in and out often.
A few improvements have also been made for developers, including memory consumption and ARM64 support. In addition, connectivity to Linux network applications will improve.
Windows Sandbox
Since the spring update of 2019, Windows 10 allows you to use Windows Sandbox, which allows you to virtualize. With a virtual operating system you can work in an environment that is shielded from the ordinary environment. In this article we explain how that works.
The virtualization option was previously somewhat limited, but that changes in the new Windows 10 update with support for your microphone and the ability to configure various aspects of the sandbox, such as networking and shared folders.
There will also be some new key combinations and you can give your Virtual Desktop your own name. Previously, these were always standard names such as Desktop 1 or Desktop 2, etc. Now you can change that yourself.
Notifications
For many Windows 10 users, the settings of notifications turned out to be rather unclear and difficult to find. Microsoft will also change that in April. When a notification appears on your screen, you immediately get options to disable it for a specific app or website. You will also find the way to the notification settings directly within the notifications. So easy!
Many other changes that Microsoft will make next month are very technical in nature and the question is whether you will notice anything. Are you curious about all the details? You can read more about that here.
