Share photos from your Android smartphone to a Mac or PC

If you've taken photos with your Android device, you can easily transfer them to your Mac or PC. This can be done in a number of different ways. Share photos via bluetooth, for example.

It is slightly easier to transfer photos to a Windows computer than to a Mac. Here we will show you different options for copying photos that are on your Android device either to a Mac or to a PC.

Why would you want to do this at all? The cameras on smartphones are getting better and better, so you can take very nice photos with your Android device that are worth editing and/or printing with more extensive software such as Photoshop.

Using Bluetooth

If your Mac or PC supports Bluetooth, this is the easiest way to share photos. It is slower than via USB or WiFi. Make sure bluetooth is turned on on both your computer and your Android device.

On a Windows computer, you will see various options in the settings for Bluetooth. Select Receive file. You will now see a screen with the message Waiting for a connection. On your Android phone, go to the Gallery app and select the photos you want to copy to your computer. Press To share and choose the bluetooth option. Now you have to choose which device you want to share the photos with. You will have to wait a while until you see the message on your computer Save the received file gets to see. Press Complete and Keith is done.

On a Mac you have to go into the settings Bluetooth on select and Browse device select. Here you can select the photos you want to transfer to your Mac.

Using USB cable

If you want to transfer multiple photos, this is much faster if you choose USB instead of Bluetooth.

If you connect your Android device to your Windows computer via a USB cable, all you need to do is swipe down the notification bar on your Android device, click USB for… pressing and Transfer files (MTP) to choose. On your PC you will get a window with the name File transfer to see. In the Windows Explorer your device will be displayed in the left panel, allowing you to directly copy any files you want, just like using an external hard drive or USB stick.

To transfer photos via USB to a Mac, you will first need a separate app for your Mac called Android File Transfer. It is an official app from Google for Mac, which enables file transfer between Android and macOS via USB connection. Once installed, this app will load every time you connect your Android device to your Mac with a USB cable.

After installing this app on your Mac, only connect your Android device to your Mac with the USB cable. Now swipe down the notification bar on your Android device, press USB for… and press Transfer files. Android File Transfer will be loaded, where you can select and copy files that are on your Android device.

Using a cloud service

If bluetooth is too slow, you don't want to install a separate app on your Mac, or you can't find your USB cable, it is also possible to transfer the photos via a cloud service, such as Dropbox, Box, iCloud, or Google drive. Through the Android or iOS apps that come with each service, you can sync photos and then download them to your Windows computer or Mac.

An additional advantage is that you always have an online backup of your photos, so that you do not lose your photos if something happens to your Android device.
