TRAVIC knows where your train or bus is, in real time

Don't feel like waiting at the bus stop for minutes? Or are you at the station and do you finally want to know when your train is coming around the bend? GeOps and the University of Freiburg have developed TRAVIC, a tool that makes both of these possible in an instant.

Granted, it only works well in your browser for now, and you usually won't have your PC with you when you're waiting at a cold station, but it's a start. TRAVIC (Transit Visualization Client) in the Netherlands knows the trains, many trams, bus lines and metro lines, and even the ferry across the IJ is not missing. Also useful is the list of stations and stops that is given for each mode of transport when you click on it.

For now, TRAVIC is just a nice feature that doesn't help you too much (part of the data is simply an estimate according to the driving schedule), but the possibilities are clear. If the makers succeed in turning the website into a mobile app, it will be a piece of cake to keep your head above water in the busy public transport in the big cities.
