The Somfy Protect Home Alarm starter package is slightly smarter than most competing home security systems. A well-known shortcoming of many products is that the motion detector gives a false alarm in pets. This specimen leaves pets up to 25 kilos to the left!

The starter pack includes three window/door contacts, a motion sensor, a siren, two remote controls and a base station that connects all elements. Users can optionally add additional devices, such as an IP camera or outdoor siren. Everything works wirelessly, so pulling cables is not necessary. As you would expect from a modern alarm system, you control the operation from a mobile app.
Set alarm system
Somfy promises a setup time of just ten minutes. That is somewhat exaggerated, because the registration and downloading of updates takes quite some time. Thanks to detailed instructions in Dutch in the Somfy Protect app, the configuration is smooth and you know exactly how to mount all hardware.
The correct batteries are already in the components, so it's simply a matter of putting it down and sticking it on. The base station has an integrated socket, which means that sufficient space is required around the power point. Furthermore, the location of the base station requires sufficient WiFi coverage. You add each remote control, window/door contact, siren and motion sensor separately to the app. In case of danger, a deafening siren goes off and the family members receive push messages.
Smart security
As soon as all components are registered, the alarm system is ready. You can switch the alarm system on or off from the app and supplied remote controls. If you give the mobile app access to location data of the device, the alarm system will take your current position into account for (de)activation. There is also a night mode and panic button.
With the latter option, you can set off the siren and send an emergency message to people you know. The window/door contact is extremely intelligent. For example, this sensor detects the difference between forcing a window and the vibrations of an unlucky football shot. The motion sensor is also a smart boy, because this device ignores movements of dogs and cats. This works flawlessly in practice, so that there is never a false alarm.
Conclusion
With a suggested retail price of almost four hundred euros, the Somfy Protect Home Alarm is admittedly on the pricey side, but you do get a well-thought-out alarm system in return. In daily use, you don't have to worry about it thanks to intelligent properties, while all hardware is ready at the desired times. Thanks to the user-friendly app, practically every homeowner can use it.
