Troubleshooting through Windows Logs

Computer errors and unexpected problems are kept in logs. To determine the cause, look in these logs for the so-called Event ID.

Step 1

Go to the log by right-clicking on My Computer and choosing Manage . Then click on the cross for Logs to display the different logs.

Step 2

Click on a log to view the events. In general, you can ignore the yellow and white balloons. The System and Applications logs are the most interesting. Double click on an error and read the description.

Step 3

If the description in the window does not provide sufficient information, surf to eventid and enter the 'Event ID' at Event ID and the 'Source' at Event Source. Click Search to search for a solution.
