You may have already experienced it. You purchase a PC with a pre-installed Windows, but you still choose to install a different Windows version. However, it soon becomes apparent that it cannot find all the drivers by any means. Annoying!
The advantage of a system with pre-installed Windows is that all drivers are installed correctly. However, whether it always concerns the most up-to-date versions is another question. The problems start if one of those drivers gets corrupted or if you want to install a different version of Windows yourself (Windows 7 Ultimate instead of Home Premium, for example).
If a CD is already included, you will often not find the driver(s) you are looking for. If you want to save yourself a difficult search, make sure to back up all installed drivers in good time.
backup
That's exactly what you can do with Double Driver. The program is portable, which means that no real installation is required. However, you should preferably start the tool as an administrator, which is necessary for a full scan and for the recovery functionality.
Once the Double Driver window appears, click backup and on Scan Current System. Note that you via Scan Other System scan the Windows folder of another, idle system (on a dual-boot system, for example). To make a backup, then click Backup Now.
All drivers neatly backed up: a safe feeling.
You can choose between a backup in the form of a hierarchical folder, as a zipped folder or as a self-extracting exe file. However, a backup to an external medium is still a good idea. You can also print the list of (selected) drivers and save it in a text file.
recovery
Of course, you don't benefit from a backup if you cannot (selectively) restore it. You do that through Restore, after which all you need to do is point to the desired backup location. Through Select quickly select the intended drivers, after which you Restore Now reset again.
We also mention that Double Driver also comes in the form of a command line tool (ddc.exe). Handy if you want to include such a command in a script or batch file in the context of an automated backup, for example.

Safety
None of the approximately 40 virus scanners saw anything suspicious in the installation file. To the best of our knowledge at the time of publication, the installation file is safe to download. See the full VirusTotal.com detection report for more details. If a new version of the software is now available, you can always rescan the file yourself via VirusTotal.com.
