The original version of Spotnet has not been updated for about four years. A shame, because the program is still popular among a large group of Usenet users. The user environment now looks old-fashioned and error messages regularly appear on the screen. For these reasons, some hobbyists decided to release their own version under the name Spotnet 2.0. The underlying technology of Spotnet 2.0 is exactly the same as that of the original edition. The program retrieves a database of spots (films, series and music) from a news server and displays its contents in a well-arranged media library. Once you want to save a media file, all you have to do is press the download button. Spotnet installs the usenet program SABnzbd in the background, which actually performs the download task. However, you hardly notice that on the computer.

Once you have entered the news server information into the program, the freeware will retrieve all the spots, spam notifications, and comments. After a few minutes of waiting, you can browse through the huge range of Usenet. New is that a tab with Release Notes is available. When the makers release an update, all changes are neatly listed. An improvement is that you can now display the catalog in three different ways. For example, you can choose to have the details of a movie appear as soon as you select a spot. In addition, it is possible to sort the spots on the basis of images.

Another aspect that the makers have taken care of are the filters. Spotnet contains many more categories than before. For example, you can now easily retrieve 3D films, music DVDs and audio books. In addition, you can see at a glance what has been posted today. There is also a corner with Dutch films, but the content is not correct. There are still many international titles here. A huge plus is that the downloader distinguishes between trustworthy and untrustworthy senders. This reduces the chances of getting infected files.
Conclusion
Spotnet 2.0 is a worthy successor to the original version. Thanks to the new sorting options, the smooth user environment is a lot clearer and the annoying error messages are a thing of the past. Be aware that the majority of all titles offered are copyrighted and you are not allowed to download them by law.
