This is what the new Windows 10 start menu looks like

Microsoft is going to take the Windows 10 start menu on the shovel and has already given a sneak peek. What can we expect?

While you probably shouldn't expect any major changes, Microsoft clearly wants to make sure that the new Start menu looks fresh again and fits the version of Windows 10 as we know it today. Over the years, Microsoft has made significant improvements to the operating system, so Windows 10 now looks significantly different than it did five years ago when the operating system was released. However, the start menu has remained the same for years.

This is new

One thing is certain: the Windows tiles will remain, despite rumors that they might disappear. The tiles will soon have the color that matches the light or dark theme that you have chosen. If you have the live tiles turned off, you get a kind of "streamlined" design, in which the icons have a transparent background. So the cumbersome, monochromatic blocks disappear.

The result is impressive: the start menu now seems to fit much better with what Windows 10 has become.

Your recently used apps, which are usually seen on the left side of the start menu, will also be updated and will no longer have colored backgrounds. This part of the start menu will also fit much better with the Windows theme you have chosen.

Launch

The new Start menu was revealed on the Microsoft 365 Facebook page. The Facebook post in question did not mention when we can expect the new Start menu. All we know is that Microsoft is still putting the finishing touches on the i's.

The new Start Menu is reportedly coming out at the end of this year or even sometime next year. We will probably not see the new start menu in the second major Windows update, which will probably appear around October or November.

Microsoft hasn't changed the start menu for a long time. The last time the start menu was seriously overhauled was during Windows 8. That's when we were first introduced to the Windows tiles, which were not to the liking of every PC user. With Windows 10, the tiles were kept, but Microsoft fell back to the classic start menu.

Do you already want to make changes to the start menu? You can: you can adjust or group tiles, among other things, while you can also adjust the 'All apps' view. In this article you can read how to do that.
