WhoCrashed 3.02

When you have to deal with a crashing computer, it is very annoying. Even more annoying is when this isn't a one-time thing, but the computer keeps crashing and you have no idea why. That is exactly why WhoCrashed was created.

WhoCrashed is actually a very short version of the television program CSI. Something is wrong, an investigation is carried out and the perpetrator is found. However, where CSI takes 45 minutes by default, WhoCrashed does it in a few seconds. When your computer crashes, dump files are written to your computer that contain information about the crash. WhoCrashed scans these files and then looks for the cause of the crash.

When you click Analyze, the cause of a recent crash is searched.

WhoCrashed will not find information that you have not already seen yourself. When Windows crashes and shows a bluescreen, it often contains all the information you need. The problem is, however, that this is often so much and so unclear that it makes no sense to you. WhoCrashed therefore filters the available information and only shows you what is really useful. That information still contains unclear codes, but now includes a short description of what may have caused the problem. This is followed by some important information from WhoCrashed itself, and this is perhaps the most valuable. This information indicates whether it is a hardware conflict (serious) or whether the crash was caused by a program and if so which one (less serious, you can uninstall it). It is extremely handy that you can also use the program to scan other computers in the network.

The program then tells you what the possible cause is.

Admittedly, WhoCrashed is a 'one trick pony': it can do very little. But if you have a crash or a computer that keeps restarting (you can then start WhoCrashed in safe mode), this program is worth its weight in gold. Start it, run the scan, and a few seconds later you'll know which software or hardware component you need to talk to.
