YouTube in PowerPoint 2010 and 2007

Do you want to give a PowerPoint presentation and use a YouTube fragment? You can download and convert the video, but that's a lot of work. If you have an Internet connection at the location where you want to give the presentation, you can also embed it in your PowerPoint presentation. This works in a similar way in PowerPoint 2007.

1. Developer Tab

Open your internet browser and surf to the YouTube page that contains the video you would like to use in your presentation. Open Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. You will see a blank page. To be able to implement a YouTube video in PowerPoint 2010, you must first make the so-called Developer tab visible. On the File tab, choose the Options menu item. Click Customize Ribbon in the left column. You will now see all buttons and tabs that are active in PowerPoint 2010. In the right column, under Customize the Ribbon , make sure that you have enabled Main Tabs. Then make sure the Developer tab is checked. If necessary, place a check mark by clicking the tab and click the OK button. You are now returned to the main PowerPoint 2010 screen. Notice that the Developer tab is now visible? Click on the tab. There are all kinds of buttons behind it that you will need later.

Developer must be checked to embed a YouTube clip.

2. Shockwave Flash Object

Click the Developer tab and select the wrench and hammer button just above Controls to see more options. The More Controls window opens. Scroll all the way down - or use the S key on your keyboard - until you see Shockwave Flash Object. First click on Shockwave Flash Object and then on OK . Your cursor will now change to a cross. Draw a box on your page. Your video will soon be shown in this box with a cross. Did you not draw the correct dimensions? No problem. You can resize the video frame by grabbing and dragging a corner of the frame. You can of course also move the frame. Now return to your internet browser. Below each YouTube clip, you'll find a box that lists the creator's name and upload date, among other things. This always contains the term URL with a unique web address underneath. Copy this code to your clipboard using the Ctrl+C key combination.

We are going to insert a Shockwave Flash Object.

3. Paste code

Return to Powerpoint 2010 and right-click on the cross frame where you want your video clip to go. Choose Properties . You will see a box with all kinds of codes. This seems more complicated than it is. Click the box next to Movie and paste the URL you copied to your clipboard in step 2 (Ctrl+V). You need to modify the code a bit. Delete watch? and replace the equal sign (=) with a slash (/). So: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0LtUX_6IXY is becoming //www.youtube.com/v/G0LtUX_6IXY.

You can also adjust other parameters if necessary. If you want the video to start automatically during the presentation, you must set the value True next to Playing. If you prefer to start the fragment manually, choose False . Don't want the fragment to repeat itself? Then you should replace True next to Loop with False . Close the window with the red cross button in the top right corner and press F5 to start the slideshow.

Remove watch? and replace the = sign with a /.
