The internet offers a wide range of videos that you can enjoy unlimited on your smartphone. At least, as long as you are online of course. Luckily, these five apps let you download the videos so you can watch them anytime. Even without an internet connection.
Note: Downloading YouTube videos violates Google's terms of use. Read YouTube's terms of service to learn what's allowed and what's not.
1. Video Downloader Pro (iOS)
The free Video Downloader Pro app lets you quickly and easily download videos to your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The advantage of this app is that the download can continue in the background, so you don't have to wait.
In addition, Video Downloader Pro also downloads videos larger than 20 MB. Another additional advantage is that you can arrange the videos on your smartphone. Unfortunately, Video Downloader Pro does not allow you to download HD videos.
Video Downloader Pro supports all major streaming media websites, including YouTube and Vimeo. This means you don't have to build on specific websites and you can decide for yourself where you get your videos from.

2. TubeMate (Android)
Tubemate is commonly used on Android smartphones. The videos you download with Tubemate will keep the same quality and size. You can download videos in 720p, 1080p or lower resolution.
The Android Play Store does not allow access to download YouTube videos due to the terms and conditions of the video service. To get around this (at your own risk), you can download TubeMate directly from the website. If YouTube is not your medium, you can of course easily remove TubeMate from the Play Store.

3. WonTube (iOS and Android)
This application is available for both smartphones and tablets. WonTube is specially made for you to easily download YouTube videos. WonTube places itself in your web browser so that you can surf and download at the same time. To download a video, select the desired URL and the download can begin.
As with TubeMate, you can download WonTube for Android directly from the website to get around YouTube's limitations. Of course also here at your own risk.

4. InstaTube (iOS)
InstaTube is the favorite among many iOS users. This app allows you to download videos and play HD videos at the same time. So you can download very quickly and easily, both on an iPad and iPhone. In addition, this app is beautifully designed and you get a clear picture of the videos that you have downloaded. The app supports YouTube, Vimeo and DailyMotion.

5. FVD - Free Video Downloader (Android)
The free FVD app allows you to download online videos directly to your device. Once installed, you almost don't have to worry about it anymore. It settles into the browser you specify, so all you have to do is go to the video and press download. The only drawback will be for some users that FVD - Free Video Downloader will not allow you to download YouTube videos.

Note: YouTube's terms of service don't allow you to copy or distribute videos. By watching online videos you increase the number of 'clicks' on the website. YouTube can then sell these clicks to advertisers, so that the service can remain free for users. Downloading thus throws YouTube's business model into disarray.
