This is how you bring a frozen iPhone to life

Does your iPhone's touchscreen no longer respond to anything or do you see a completely black screen? Do not panic! By going through a few steps you can try to bring your frozen iPhone back to life.

Reset your iPhone

Is your iPhone touchscreen frozen and no longer responding to your touches? Then it is not possible to simply restart your iPhone, since you have to flip a slider on the touchscreen to switch off the device. Also read: Is your iPhone freezing? This is the solution.

Therefore, try to reset your iPhone. Press and hold the power button and the home button at the same time for ten seconds. You can release the buttons again as soon as the Apple logo appears. Your iPhone will now reset and reboot.

Charge your iPhone

Is it not possible to reset your iPhone? Then it is possible that the battery of your smartphone is completely empty. Therefore, try to charge the device by connecting the device to the mains using the charger. It is also possible to charge the iPhone by connecting it to your Mac or PC with a USB cable. However, charging via a USB cable is slower than via the electricity network.

Keep in mind that your iPhone must first store power in the battery before the device can start up. So if your battery is completely empty, the device needs to be on the charger for some time before the iPhone can show any sign of life. Therefore, before trying to start up your iPhone, wait until the device has been able to charge for at least thirty minutes.

Update your iPhone

Is your iPhone still not working after charging and you don't have the latest version of iOS installed on your iPhone? Then it can help to update your iPhone to the most current operating system. All data and settings on your iPhone will remain on the device during the update. However, it is always possible that something goes wrong during the installation of an operating system, as a result of which the data can still be lost. So try to make a backup of your iPhone first!

Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC using the USB cable. Then open iTunes and wait for your iPhone to be recognized by the application. In most cases, iTunes automatically creates a backup. However, you may have disabled this option in the settings. Therefore click to be sure with the Control key pressed on your iPhone and choose the option Make backup in the context menu.

Once you have made a backup, you can update the iPhone to the latest version of the operating system. To do this, click on your iPhone in the menu on the left side of iTunes. You will now see an overview with information about your iPhone. Click the button on this screen Work at. Apple will now tell you which version of iOS the iPhone will be updated to. Click again Work at to install the new operating system.

Restore your iPhone

Doesn't it help to update your iPhone or do you already have the latest version of iOS iPhone installed? Then try to restore your iPhone via iTunes. You place a clean version of iOS on your iPhone. In addition, the factory settings of the iPhone are restored and your own settings are therefore lost. Pay attention! All data such as videos, music, apps and photos will be lost when you restore your iPhone. Therefore, always try to make a backup before restoring your iPhone so that you can restore your data at a later stage. To make a backup, follow the steps discussed under 'Update your iPhone'.

You can restore your iPhone by connecting it to your Mac or PC with the USB cable. Then open iTunes and wait for the app to find your iPhone. Now select your iPhone from the menu on the left side of iTunes and click the button recovery. iTunes now asks if you are sure you want to restore your iPhone and warns that you will lose data. click on Restore and update to confirm your choice.

Restore backup

Does your iPhone work again after the restore? Then restore your backup to put your contact information, settings, photos and other data back on your iPhone. To do this, open iTunes again. Click now with the Control key pressed on your iPhone to display the context menu. In this menu, choose the option Restore from backup to copy the data from the most recent backup to your iPhone.
