Windows 10 update requires new version AVG and Avast antivirus

When installing new updates, Windows 10 automatically detects when certain programs are incompatible - at least when Microsoft knows this. And that is now the case with antivirus software from AVG and Avast. What now?

According to Microsoft, there are undisclosed compatibility issues with Avast and AVG versions 19.5.4444.567 and below, along with Windows version 1903 (the May update) and version 1909 (the October update that has just been released ). To prevent this from escalating, users are advised to upgrade their antivirus programs to a newer version first.

smart anyway

For Avast and AVG, this can both be done within the software itself, via the settings menu. The programs do not have to be uninstalled first. On the one hand, you may lose a little more time before you can install the new Windows updates. On the other hand, it is advisable to keep antivirus up-to-date anyway, so there is a good excuse here.
