In our articles we often unexpectedly refer to commercial archiving software such as WinZip and WinRAR. But there are also free alternatives, such as 7-Zip. RarZilla Free Unrar is another such free tool, which allows you to extract only rar files.
Rar is a proprietary archive format created by the software company Rarlab. Rar files are mainly found in files that are downloaded from the internet such as software or movies. The files are often chopped into small pieces to make uploading and downloading easier and to store files in different locations. In general, commercial WinRAR is used for packing and unpacking. If you are only interested in extracting the rar files, then RarZilla Free Unrar is a great alternative.
To extract a file, you need to run RarZilla, then drag and drop files into the program. You can also open them via the button unrar under the tab RarZilla Free UnRar. If you chose to associate rar files with RarZilla Free Unrar during installation, you can also extract the files directly with a simple double click, or right click on a rar file and choose Extract!. Then you can specify where you want the files and RarZilla Free Unrar will extract them. The program also knows how to handle protected files, it neatly asks for a password when extracting. RarZilla Free Unrar is a simple program and it does exactly what it promises: to extract rar files, nothing more and nothing less.
Another small point of criticism and a warning: during the installation it is advised to install the annoying Ask Toolbar. Prevent installation by checking the box for Include the Ask Tool (recommended) off and only then press the button to install to click.
RarZilla Free Unrar is an alternative to the paid software WinRar, if you only want to extract files.
